Each year, the Provost Awards celebrate the outstanding professional contributions and exceptional service of Loyola’s faculty. These awards publicly recognize the dedication, excellence, and far-reaching impact that faculty members have across our university community.
We are proud to present 11 distinguished awards
Faculty Member of the Year Award
This award honors a faculty member who demonstrates high achievement in three areas: teaching; scholarship or creative work; and service (to the university and wider academy, culture, and public).
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $2,000 honorarium.
Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Faculty Award for Diversity Leadership
This award honors a faculty member who champions diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, scholarship, and service to the Loyola community.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a commemorative plaque and a $2,000 honorarium.
Vincent J. Duminuco, S.J. award for Assessment Leadership
This award honors three faculty members for their exceptional work in leadership of assessment practices and processes, fulfilling Loyola’s commitment to quality teaching practice in service of providing exceptional learning experiences to students.
Alice B. Hayes Award for Advising and Mentoring
This award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exceptional commitment to advising and mentoring students both inside and outside the classroom. Awardees exhibit a passion for student development and professional growth, showing personal care for each individual.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $1,000 award.
Peter Hans Kolvenbach, S.J. Award for Engaged Teaching
This award recognizes faculty who promote justice oriented and collaborative learning through a variety of hands-on, service-learning, and outreach experiences that encourage students to apply classroom material to real life situations.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $1,000 award.
Mary Therese Langerbeck Award for Undergraduate Research Mentoring
This award acknowledges Loyola faculty who devote significant time and effort to mentoring undergraduate researchers, fostering critical thinking and discovery.
Two faculty members are honored each year. Each receives a $2,000 award.
Fr. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J. Award for Excellence in Engaged Learning and Teaching
This award honors instructors who bring imagination and dedication to an Engaged Learning course in the spirit of Fr. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., former Superior General of the Jesuits, who once said:
“Depth of thought and imagination in the Ignatian tradition involves a profound engagement with the real, a refusal to let go until one goes beneath the surface.”
Two faculty members are selected annually. Each receives a $2,000 award.
Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching First Years
This award honors a faculty member who meaningfully engages first-year students both in and beyond the classroom, helping them harness their talents in service to the broader community.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $1,000 award.
Magis Teaching Award for Part-Time Instructors
This award recognizes part-time instructors who draw from their professional expertise to enrich the classroom experience. Honorees exemplify cura personalis and embody Loyola’s mission in their teaching.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $1,000 award.
St. Ignatius of Loyola Award for Excellence in Teaching
This award honors a faculty member who exemplifies excellence in teaching, mentoring, global awareness, and the promotion of justice, always guided by cura personalis and the Jesuit mission.
One faculty member, selected annually, receives a $1,500 award.
Schreiber Venture Fund Innovation Grant
This grants program supports faculty-led projects that propose bold, new approaches to complex societal challenges. Projects may address issues such as education, immigration, health, housing, food access, religion, or early childhood development.
Grants range from $25,000 to $100,000 for a one-year funding cycle.
